Super Rugby Trophy (2011-2015)

An iconic trophy for the Southern Hemisphere’s premier Rugby competition.

SANZAR (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby) commissioned Blue Sky to create a new icon for a revamped Super Rugby competition. The trophy has been designed to reflect the core elements of Rugby – tradition, physical toughness, camaraderie, and skill. The shape of the trophy is centered around three curved legs, with each leg representing each of the conferences involved in the competition.

At 65 cm tall and made from sold stainless steel, the trophy has a strong visual presence, and is an iconic symbol of the Super Rugby competition. The model making team at Box & Dice manufactured the trophy to their usual exacting standards.

On 30 June 2011, SANZAR unveiled the new trophy that will be presented to the winners of the Super Rugby final scheduled for Saturday, 9 July 2011

SANZAR CEO, Greg Peters, said “The champions trophy is the ‘big one’, and will become the ultimate symbol of Super Rugby supremacy in the years to come.”

The colour on each leg corresponds to the Conferences with gold for Australia, black for New Zealand, and green for South Africa.

The Reds of Australia, the Stormers of South Africa and the Crusaders of New Zealand were the winners of their respective conferences and were each presented with a scaled-down copy of the trophy.
